Your domicile is the state you call home for legal purposes: driver's license, vehicle registration, voting, jury duty and, depending on the state, taxes. RVers often pick SD, TX or FL. Each state has its own process, and the rules change, so confirm with the state agency before you commit.
South Dakota. SD's Department of Public Safety has a process for full-time travelers that uses a residency affidavit and proof of an overnight stay in the state. Confirm current requirements with South Dakota DPS Driver Licensing.
Texas. Texas DPS asks for proof of Texas residency when you apply for a license. Confirm with Texas DPS Driver License which documents it accepts for a mail-service address.
Florida. Florida law lets you file a sworn declaration of domicile with the clerk of the circuit court (Fla. Stat. 222.17). For a license, confirm requirements with Florida HSMV driver licenses.
